Marvels of Rome Tour from Civitavecchia

Enjoy the marvels of Ancient Rome through the Renaissance era and an unforgettable visit to the Vatican.

Your English speaking driver will meet you right on the pier next to your ship in Civitavecchia for optimal convenience and take you on a journey through the countryside to Rome for a fun fill day in the Eternal City.

As you make your way to your destinations, you will pass through famous squares such as the roundabout Piazza Venezia that boasts the impressive white marble monument dedicated to Victor Emmanuel II, the first king of unified Italy.

While in “Ancient Rome” you have the opportunity to visit the Colosseum. The Colosseum does not require an introduction as it’s one of the most famous ancient amphitheaters in the world and the iconic symbol of Rome.  Enjoy the stunning picture perfect view of the Roman Forum with the Palatine Hill behind it from a strategic terrace on top of Capitoline Hill.  Nearby, remaining ruins of the once grandiose chariot race stadium, Circus Maximus, continues to impress visitors with the imposing backdrop ruins of Palatine Hill that overlooks it.

One of the must see ancient sites of Rome is the Pantheon – the 2,000 year old pagan temple that became a church in 7th century and has been in continuous use throughout its history. It’s massive dome has an oculus in its center through which sunshine and nature’s elements flow into the interior of the ancient temple.

The elegant beauty and style of Rome is visible in its famous squares: The Spanish Steps and the Trevi Fountain.  Immortalized in movie classics such as “La Dolce Vita” and “Three Coins in A Fountain”, the Baroque Trevi Fountain continues to draw thousands of visitors each day – most of which follow the long tradition of tossing a coin in the fountain to ensure a return visit to Rome.  The fountains themselves are considered marvels of Rome!

You will stop at a local restaurant for a traditional Italian lunch before your Marvels of Rome Shore Excursion continues in the afternoon. Your driver can assist you with offering suggestions for lunch.

Your next stop is the Vatican – the smallest country in the world – to visit the treasure filled Vatican Museums, Michelangelo’s masterpieces inside the Sistine Chapel, and St Peter’s Basilica.

Upon completing your Vatican visit, you will be driven back to your ship in Civitavecchia.
