Pisa and Florence

Pisa and Florence is the most popular tour from the port of Livorno highlighting two of the most famous and sought after cities in Tuscany.

Your English speaking driver will meet you on the pier next to your ship in Livorno and whisk you away on an exciting excursion into Tuscany.

Pisa was one of the most significant maritime medieval cities, and testimony to its historic power and wealth are the significant monuments located in Piazza dei Miracoli (Square of the Miracles): the famous Leaning Tower of Pisa, the Duomo (Cathedral) and Baptistery.

A scenic drive through Tuscany will take you to Florence, the cradle of Renaissance and the birthplace of some of the world’s greatest artists, thinkers, poets, philosophers, architects and scientists.

Piazzale Michelangelo offers visitors an awe inspiring panorama of Florence and River Arno.

Basilica of Santa Croce is one of the most fascinating churches in Tuscany that houses the funerary tombs of some of Florence’s most renowned figures:  Michelangelo, Galileo, Machiavelli Lorenzo Ghiberti and more.   Stunning frescoes by Giotto, Cimabue, Donatello and Giorgio Vasari adorn chapels inside the basilica. It is truly a museum and mausoleum that merits a visit when in Florence.

You will also have the opportunity to visit Piazza del Duomo to admire the impressive Florence Cathedral (Santa Maria del Fiore), Giotto’s Campanile / Bell tower, and the Baptistery of St John.

Piazza della Signoria is dominated by Palazzo Vecchio and it has been Florence’s political center throughout its history. The arched Loggia del Lanzi showcases impressive sculptures from the classical to Renaissance eras for an open-air museum feel.

Nearby is the world famous bridge Ponte Vecchio (Old Bridge) lined with fine jewelry shops giving it a look of a charming jewel box. Ponte Vecchio was a designated place for goldsmiths since the Renaissance times.

You will also have the opportunity to visit one of Florence’s most significant museums, the Accademia Gallery, and admire the original statue of David among other precious works of art. You can also choose instead to visit the Uffizi Gallery that features masterpieces by Leonardo da Vinci, Botticelli, and other famous Renaissance artists.

On a shore excursion there is only enough time to visit 1 museum, not both. The Uffizi Gallery takes longer to visit, therefore taking time away from other sites in Florence. Most of our guests opt to visit the Accademia and enjoy more of Florence.

Following your museum visit you will journey back to Livorno where you will be taken directly to your ship.
